The Defensive and Offensive Jihad

In The Name Of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu

The Defensive and Offensive Jihad
Quran is the message for all times.Every verse of defensive Jihad and offensive Jihad is applied in all times till Qiyamah depending upon the demand of the situation.
4:79 Whatever good (O man!) happens to thee is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee is from thy (own) soul. And We have sent thee as an Apostle to (instruct) mankind: and enough is Allah for a witness.

Defensive Jihad Can be done Without The Presence Of Khilafah.Offensive Jihad Is Done In The Presence Of Khilafah & Under The Direction Of Khalifah
Fighting Is Prescribed
2:216 Fighting is prescribed for you and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth and ye know not.
217 They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say: "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah to deny Him to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque and drive out its members. Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you turn back from their faith and die in unbelief their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be Companions of the Fire and will abide therein.

Jihad To Rescue The Oppressed
4:75 And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who being weak are ill-treated (and oppressed)? Men women and children whose cry is: "Our Lord! rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from Thee one who will protect; and raise for us from Thee one who will help!"

Fight But Do Not Transgress

2:190 Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.
191 And slay them wherever ye catch them and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.
192 But if they cease Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.
193 And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression.

Permissibility For War

22:39 To those against whom war is made permission is given (to fight) because they are wronged and verily Allah is Most powerful for their aid
40 (They are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right (for no cause) except that they say "Our Lord is Allah." Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another there would surely have been pulled down monasteries churches synagogues and mosques in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly aid those who aid His (cause); for verily Allah is Full of Strength Exalted in Might (Able to enforce His Will).
41 (They are) those who if We establish them in the land establish regular prayer and give regular charity enjoin the right and forbid wrong: with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs.

Fight Those Who Fight You
2:190 Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors.
194 The prohibited month for the prohibited month and so for all things prohibited there is the law of equality. If then anyone transgresses the prohibition against you transgress ye likewise against him. But fear Allah and know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.

9:123 O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about and let them find firmness in you; and know that Allah is with those who fear him.

9:36 The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year) so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred; that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves therein and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.

16:110 But verily thy Lord to those who leave their homes after trials and persecutions and who thereafter strive and fight for the faith and patiently persevere thy Lord after all this is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

8:61 But if the enemy incline towards peace do thou (also) incline towards peace and trust in Allah: for He is the one that heareth and knoweth (all things).
62 Should they intend to deceive thee verily Allah sufficeth thee: He it is that hath strengthened thee with his aid and with (the company of) the believers:

Offensive Jihad/Qital
Fight In The Cause Of Allah
2:243 Didst thou not turn thy vision to those who abandoned their homes though they were thousands (in number) for fear of death? Allah said to them: "Die." Then He restored them to life. For Allah is full of bounty to mankind but most of them are ungrateful.
244 Then fight in the cause of Allah and know that Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

8:65 O apostle! rouse the believers to the fight. If there are twenty amongst you patient and persevering they will vanquish two hundred: if a hundred they will vanquish a thousand of the unbelievers: for these are a people without understanding.
66 For the present Allah hath lightened your (task) for He knoweth that there is a weak spot in you: but (even so) if there are a hundred of you patient and persevering they will vanquish two hundred and if a thousand they will vanquish two thousand with the leave of Allah: for Allah is with those who patiently persevere.
67 It is not fitting for an apostle that he should have prisoners of war until he hath thoroughly subdued the land. Ye look for the temporal goods of this world; but Allah looketh to the hereafter; and Allah is Exalted in might Wise

57:10 And what cause have ye why ye should not spend in the cause of Allah? For to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth. Not equal among you are those who spent (freely) and fought before the Victory (with those who did so later). Those are higher in rank than those who spent (freely) and fought afterwards. But to all has Allah promised a goodly (reward) and Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

4:74 Let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. To him who fighteth in the cause of Allah whether he is slain or gets victory soon shall We give him a reward of great (value).

9:29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His apostle nor acknowledge the religion of truth (even if they are) of the People of the Book until they pay the Jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.

4:77 Hast thou not turned thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them behold! a section of them feared men as or even more than they should have feared Allah: they say: "Our Lord! why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not grant us respite to our (natural) term near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!
78 "Wherever ye are death will find you out even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them they say "This is from Allah"; but if evil they say "this is from thee" (O Prophet). Say: "All things are from Allah. But what hath come to these people that they fail to understand a single fact?
"And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war to terrorise(turhiboona)the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allaah does know. And whatever you shall spend in the Cause of Allâh shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly." [Al Anfaal: 60]

Except For Prohibited Months Of Fighting,Its Allowed To Fight Offensive Jihad In Any Month & For Defensive Jihad It Depends Of The Dire Need Irrespective Of Any Month.
2:217 They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month.
218 Those who believed and those who suffered exile and fought (and strove and struggled) in the path of Allah they have the hope of the Mercy of Allah; and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

The Messeneger himself had 19 Ghazwat which mostly were an offensive attacks on other tribes and towns such as the famous khaybar, tabuk, mutah, al qurad, taif etc... The Conquest of Makkah itself was an offensive suprise attack. Not even his closest companions knew what was going on until he reached Makkah. So the claim that Prophet fought only 3 wars is clearly false and rejected not only by the Seerah, but also by the books of Sahih.

Sahih Al Bukhari 5:59:285: Narrated Abu Ishaq: Once, while I was sitting beside Zaid bin Al-Arqam, he was asked, "How many Ghazwat did the Prophet undertake?" Zaid replied, "Nineteen." They said, "In how many Ghazwat did you join him?" He replied, "Seventeen." I asked, "Which of these was the first?" He replied, "Al-'Ashira or Al-'Ashiru."

Sahih Al Bukhari 5:59:569: Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa: I fought in seven Ghazwat along with the Prophet and fought in nine battles, fought by armies dispatched by the Prophet. Once Abu Bakr was our commander and at another time, Usama was our commander.

Establish Allah's Handiwork Through Jihad. If Land Is Conquered Without Fighting Then Its Readily Accepted To Establiah Allah's Handiwork i.e Allah's Law But If Its Not Possible To Conquer Land Without Fighting Then Fighting Is Commanded To Establish Law Of Allah On Earth

30:30 So set thou thy face steadily and truly to the Faith: (Establish) Allah's handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made mankind: no change (let there be) in the work (wrought) by Allah: that is the standard Religion: but most among mankind understand not.
31 Turn ye back in repentance to Him and fear Him: establish regular prayers and be not ye among those who join gods with Allah,

It is reported in Sahih Muslim upon the authority of Abou Sa'aed Al Kudri that the Sahabah asked the Messenger Muhammad(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) 'What is Jihad?' And He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said 'to fight to make Allah's Deen the highest'
When the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was asked who is in the way of Allah i.e. who is a Mujahid, he explained, "Whosoever fights to make Allah's word the highest, then he is in the way of Allah." [Sahih Al Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

Narrated by Ibn Majah with a source in Bukhari, woman came to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and asked "O Messenger of Allah! Is Jihad obliged upon the women?" To which he responded, "yes, jihad without Qitaal (fighting), it is the Hajj and the Umrah!"

Quran Is The Message For Mankind Of All times & Muslims Are Witness Over Mankind & They Are The Best Community.Muslims Are The Inheritors & Its The Duty Of Muslims To Forbid Indecency From The Face Of The Earth & Hence Establish The Law Of Allah Through Khilafah/Caliphate.
4:79 Whatever good (O man!) happens to thee is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee is from thy (own) soul. And We have sent thee as an Apostle to (instruct) mankind: and enough is Allah for a witness.

(3:110) Ye (the Muslims) are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind. Ye enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency (evil); and ye believe in Allah.

22:78 And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive (with sincerity and under discipline): He has chosen you and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion; it is the cult of your father Abraham. It is He Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (Revelation); that the Apostle may be a witness for you and ye be witnesses for mankind! So establish regular Prayer give regular Charity and hold fast to Allah! He is your Protector the Best to protect and the Best to help!
"Verily, Allaah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allaah's Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Tauraat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Qur'aan. And who is truer to his covenant than Allaah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success" [At-Taubah: 111].

"O you who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you and know that Allaah is with those who keep their duty" [At-Taubah: 123].
61:4 Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array as if they were a solid cemented structure.

Abdullah ibn Umar (ra) relates that the Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "I have been ordered to initiate the fighting of people, until they testify that there is no god save Allah, that Muhammad is Allah's Prophet, establish Salat and pay Zakat. If they do that they save their blood from me, except by the right of Islam, their account will be to Allah" [Sahih Al Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

In another hadith related by Anas ibn Malik (ra);
"Three are the origin of faith, to refrain from saying; 'they are disbelievers,' if they say there is no god save Allah, merely because of a sin or bad action. Secondly, that Jihad is continuous until the Day of Judgement, till the last one of my Ummah fights the 'Dajjal'. Thirdly to believe in the Qadr."

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) stated, "This Deen will never cease to exist. A party of the Muslims shall always fight for it until the Hour comes to pass" [Al Jami us Sahih of Imam Muslim]

Prayers (Salat) Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 8 :: Hadith 429 Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any amongst the Prophets before me. These are:
1. Allah made me victorious by awe (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey.
2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum. Therefore my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.
3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me (and was not made so for anyone else).
4. Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation exclusively but I have been sent 1o all mankind.
5. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection.)

Sahih Al Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Narrated Abu Hurayra: I herd the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "I have been given that no other prophets were given...One of which is to terrify the enemy by one months distance."

The arabic word for Terrorist is IRHAB - the word turhiboon is derived from the verb RAHAB to terrorise. So those who also say "Islaam strongly opposes kidnapping, terrorism, or hijacking against civilian targets, even at the time of war" - are CLEARLY Mistaken

Allaah Ta'ala has also described those types of people: "And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allaah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie" [Al An'am: 116] This aya not only rebukes the liars but also can be used against the shirk concept of 'democracy'

He it is who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion, however much the idolaters may be averse. –(9:33)

And verily We have written in the Scripture, after the Reminder : My righteous slaves will inherit the earth. –(21:105)

Those who, if We give them power in the land, establish worship (salat) and pay the poor-due (zakat) and enjoin good and forbid wrong…… –(22:41)

Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Moses): My servants the righteous, shall inherit the earth." 21:105
2:216 Fighting is prescribed for you and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth and ye know not.

The Messenger himself had 19 Ghazwat which mostly were an offensive attacks on other tribes and towns such as the famous Khaybar, Tabuk, Mutah, Taif etc... The Conquest of Makkah itself was an offensive suprise attack. Not even his closest companions knew what was going on until he reached Makkah.

27.62 Or who listens to the (soul) distressed when it calls on Him and who relieves its suffering and makes you (mankind) inheritors of the earth? (Can there be another) god besides Allah? Little it is that ye heed!

47:35. So be not weak and ask not for peace (from the enemies of Islâm), while you are having the upper hand. Allâh is with you, and will never decrease the reward of your good deeds.

Conclusion
Quran is the message for all times.Every verse of defensive Jihad and offensive Jihad is applied in all times till Qiyamah depending on the demand of the situation.
4:79 Whatever good (O man!) happens to thee is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee is from thy (own) soul. And We have sent thee as an Apostle to (instruct) mankind: and enough is Allah for a witness.

Allah Knows Best
